Hey Girl, Hey! I'm Effie Alofoje-Carr and I'm super excited to bring you a monthly list of my favorite things. Through my article Mama's Monthly Must Haves, we'll discuss products, places, people, events and cool ideas that I think you shouldn't live without. And of course we'll talk about food! Because food is everything! Anyway get ready; I know we'll have a blast together!
A little about me- I live in East Lansing with frequent trips to my hometown of Detroit. By frequent, I mean whenever I can make it happen I hit the freeway with my braids blowing in the wind. My handsome husband and our brilliant seven year old son, DJ, are on my list of faves.

I also stay busy as a part time business owner and work at home mom. I host an annual women's conference each May in Okemos called Pretty Empowered with Effie Alofoje-Carr. This event has been filled with THE best people and things, and so far the only thing missing has been you! This year is obviously very different, so I started #PrettyEmpoweredTV as a result. Every Friday around five I go live from my personal Facebook page and share my top five favorite things. I'm thrilled to now curate a list specifically for all you MacKid Mamas. Effie's 5 Must Haves For Local Black Friday Shopping
1. New books from Schuler's Books in Okemos.
As an independent Michigan book retailer, you'll find a bevy of Michigan based authors and ton of other gits options! It might be fun to stock up on some winter reading material for everyone in the family. I know I'll be reading to help cope with lots of indoor time this winter.
2. Toys from Mother and Earth Baby Boutique
Stop in and take a look or check out their website. You're sure to find something for the littles and other parents in your life. Watch their Instagram page to give you the insider info on Black Friday specials!
3. Some Moneyball Sportswear
Our son loves athletic wear, and some of his favorites come from this #LoveLansing born brand. They are committed to running specials for the holiday, check in closer to shopping time- they're finalizing prices and told me this is when they plan to reveal your opportunities for savings!
2. A bra or pajamas from Curavaceous Lingerie
This is THE only place I buy my bras. PERIOD. My girl Lauren will take amazing care of you, and with an incredible variety of sizes in store, you'll be impressed! Watch her Facebook for Black Friday deets!
1. Gifts from Eastwood Towncenter
Yeah I know it's cold, but as an East Lansing resident and former employee of two Eastwood retailers, I shop there year round. Most stores are open and ready for you, and there's food, always a plus. Being outside will definitely be a better way to move from store to store this year. Plus with Walmart and Starbucks nearby, it could be your one stop shop, and mall gift cards will be available at the office.
