Did you know the average 8-10 year old child spends six hours in front some sort of screen each day? The number increases to 9 hours per day for 11-14 year olds. Couple that with the slow death of physical education in schools, and you have a recipe for disaster. When are they supposed to learn how to move?
Kids used to learn fundamental movement skills like running, jumping, cutting, throwing, catching, kicking, etc, through physical education, playing outside, and playing multiple sports and games. Not only are kids not playing nearly as much, but sports aren’t the same anymore. It’s hard to play multiple sports because kids are forced to specialize at a very young age. Early specialization only adds to the problem. Playing only one sport exposes a child to a very limited movement variety. It also increases the risk of overuse injuries, burnout, and a decreased probability of remaining active throughout life.
This is why I started Building Champions, to help kids become confident, well rounded movers. Being a confident mover opens up so many more options for kids to be active and feel comfortable in their own skin. Confident movers stay active for life.
Building Champions offers three different classes.
Ages 6-9 "Little Champions" is a class focusing on teaching basic fundamental movements like running, jumping, hopping, skipping, catching, throwing, etc. These skills are taught through different exercises and games, with the emphasis on having fun.
Ages 10-13 "Junior Champions" offers two different levels of classes: general and advanced. Both classes consist of more advanced movements and multiple movements performed together. The general class is meant for kids who either play sports for fun, or don't play sports at all. The advanced class is meant for kids who play sports and travel sports competitively.
