Play At Your Parks Round 2

By Amy Romback, Publisher and Editor of Macaroni Kid East Lansing-Okemos-Haslett May 3, 2018

Yay! It's FINALLY here! Seriously, I know people complain about winter every year but THIS year was really rough? Right?! Anyways, we have been having a blast at our local parks the last couple of weeks. Here's our April round up. Get out there and PLAY!

Lake Lansing Park South

1621 Pike St.

Haslett, MI 48840

This is obviously a very well-known park but one of our favorites so I had to include it. Plus, if you're new to the area maybe you haven't checked it out yet. This park has so much to offer! Lake Lansing Park South is a great place to swim, fish, grill, play, picnic, kayak, listen to music, etc. My kids love the wooden play structure, especially the tire swing that it has.  I like it because you can stand in the middle of it and see where your kids are at all times. I also like the fact that it has separate areas for younger and older kids. The free big wheel track is a huge bonus. You don't even have to bring your own big wheel! In the summer they have free family concerts in the park as well as other events (Make sure you are subscribed to our newsletter to keep up on them 😉). There's also a place to purchase snacks and a public restroom that's open during the season. You could spend the whole day here and not get bored! I could go on and on about how wonderful this park is but I'll let you do some exploring on your own. Please note that there is a $3 entrance fee for Ingham County resident and $5 for non-residents.  You can also buy an annual pass that allows you entrance into Burchfield Park, Hawk Island, Lake Lansing Park-North, and Lake Lansing Park-South for $32 for residents and $42 for non-residents. These can be purchased at the gate houses.

Wonch Park

4555 Okemos Rd.

Okemos, MI 48864

This is another favorite of ours. I love the trail that goes around the park. It follows the river and makes for a nice little scenic walk. The kids enjoy exploring and I enjoy getting to stretch my legs a bit. There a nice area with some workout equipment as well. If your kids are a bit older they could play at the playground while you get some exercise in. Win-win. There's also a great gazebo that is perfect for a picnic or to host a party.  Restrooms are on site.

Ferguson Park

4540 Okemos Rd.

Okemos, MI 48864

Located across the street from Wonch Park, Ferguson Park has a great fishing spot and connects to one of our many natural areas. The park is usually pretty quiet as I feel like most people tend to go across the street. There are definitely quite a few geese and they aren't very friendly so if your kids like to try to hug all the animals you may want to be on the look out.

Wiswasser Park

6499 Park Lake Rd.

Bath Twp, MI 48808

BONUS PARK: Wiswasser Park is not located in East Lansing, Okemos or Haslett but I visited it this week for the first time and had to include it. We went with a group of friends and all of our kids absolutely loved the playground. It's 3 stories and has a ton of cool features. It kinda makes me want to be a kid again. Restrooms are on site as well as a gazebo, making it convenient for picnics and parties. The lake is across the street with a dock that you can fish off of.
